It consistently ranks as one of the best universities of Italy, both overall and in specific subject areas, and it has received important international recognitions. It is the only Italian member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU), a group of twenty-one research-intensive European universities, and it has produced more than 24,000 scientific publications in the last three years alone.
The UMIL School of Exercise and Sport Science is deeply involved in research and actions connected with sport, nutrition and health. In recent years it has led two important national anti-doping actions: the 2009-2015 “Doping-Offside” project, in which Prof. Antonio La Torre provided a first body of epidemiological data within the Italian school population and the 2015-2019 Lotta al Doping (Fight Against Doping) project in which Prof. La Torre and Prof. Roberto Codella led a group of regional experts tasked with educating students in more than 200 high schools about the values of sport, the risks of doping and the dangers of moral disengagement.
In the I RUN CLEAN project, the UNMIL School of Exercise and Sport Science will co-lead the Ambassador Activities work package, which includes design of the workshops and preparation of the first teams of ambassadors, and co-lead the Impact Testing work package, which includes development of the research plan, data collection and data analysis.
